While doing a little research on accessories for the forthcoming iPad (because, you know, real geeks look into blinging out their gadgets before said gadgets even have FCC approval), I came across a slew of attractive and useful cases, covers, skins, bags, stands and other paraphernalia for the wonderful and magical device. But there’s always that one thing that makes you raise one eyebrow and go “WTF?” And tonight, that thing was TrendyDigital’s WaterGuard Waterproof Case for the Apple iPad.

From the description at Amazon:

Designed specifically for Apple iPad tablet computer (Wifi / 3G Model 16GB, 32GB, 64GB)

You can operate the keyboard and navigation interface through the case with ease

WaterGuard case protects against water, dust, dirt, sand and other elements.

You can wear around neck or shoulder with adjustable strap

Great companion when you use your Ipad at the beach, near the pool side, in the bathtub or at the kitchen table

So it’s a plastic bag that you put the iPad in and it has a string so you can hang it around your shoulder or neck? For $20?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t one just go to their local corner store and pick up a package of 50 large sandwich bags for under $6 and produce the same water resistant effect? Yeah, sure, the semi-transparent ZipLoc logo emblazoned on the bags would partially obfuscate the Apple logo on the back of the device, but the upside is there wouldn’t be holes for a string, thus, eliminating the possibility of ever being inducted into the douchebag hall of fame for wearing an iPad around your neck.

Sorry TrendyDigital, your WaterGuard Waterproof Case for the Apple iPad doesn’t even jiggle the needle on the GeekGasmic.com awesomeness meter.
